Vienna’s coffeehouse culture is unparalleled, celebrated worldwide as a UNESCO World Heritage tradition. These iconic spaces have long served as meeting points for writers, artists, philosophers, and architects—elegant extensions of their living rooms, fostering creativity and conversation.

Bieder & Maier, a Viennese coffee brand, builds on this rich heritage by blending the timeless charm of Vienna’s coffeehouse tradition with contemporary design sensibilities. Inspired by the Biedermeier era, known for its elegant simplicity and focus on intimate, comfortable spaces, the Bieder & Maier Café reinterprets this cultural legacy for modern audiences.

Key design elements such as Thonet chairs, velvet seating, and marble-topped tables nod to the staples of traditional Viennese coffeehouses while incorporating a touch of luxury and modern elegance.

To celebrate the brand’s first permanent brick-and-mortar presence, I commissioned and directed a custom chinoiserie by Allison Cosmos, seamlessly extending the brand’s corporate identity into the space. This playful and artistic element adds depth to the interior, offering an immersive experience that juxtaposes historical references with fresh, imaginative flair. The result is a space that honours Vienna’s cultural heritage while creating a contemporary destination for coffee lovers.
